The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a list of Team Nigeria Ambassadors ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, underlining the country’s determination to make a strong impression at the global multi-sport event.

The ambassadorial list, approved by the Commission, includes notable figures from sports administration, athlete representation, and corporate partnerships. Among those named are Mallam Saleh Ahmadu, alongside respected stakeholders such as Amos Adamu, Patrick Ekeji, Alhassan Yakmut, and Gbenga Elegbeleye.

These administrators, many of whom previously served as Director General of the NSC, bring a wealth of experience expected to play a key role in Nigeria’s preparations and overall performance at the Games.

The list also features former elite athletes and key stakeholders, including Olympic gold medalist Daniel Igali, Blessing Oborodudu, Tajudeen Ogunbade, Khadijat Sulaiman, Victor Iroele, as well as a representative of Premium Trust Bank and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale Adeniyi.

The NSC noted that the appointments reflect a deliberate strategy to combine administrative experience, technical expertise, and athlete insight as Nigeria intensifies preparations for the Games.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, bringing together thousands of athletes from about 74 Commonwealth nations and territories.

The Games will feature a streamlined programme of 10 sports, including athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling, and gymnastics, with full integration of para-sports to promote inclusivity alongside elite competition.

The unveiling of the ambassadors signals a renewed push by the NSC to strengthen Team Nigeria’s preparation, improve athlete support structures, and enhance the country’s presence on the global sporting stage.
