Nigeria’s Super Eagles have maintained their position as the 26th-ranked team in the world in the latest FIFA rankings, following a productive March international window.
The ranking keeps Nigeria steady at the same spot they attained earlier in the year, largely due to their impressive outing at the Africa Cup of Nations, where they recorded five wins and two draws en route to a third-place finish. Under head coach Eric Chelle, the team secured victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, and Algeria, before falling to Morocco in the semi-finals and defeating Egypt in the bronze medal match.
Their recent form in March further reinforced that consistency. The Super Eagles claimed a 2–1 win over Iran and followed it up with a 2–2 draw against Jordan, results that, while encouraging, were not enough to push them higher in the global standings.
On the continent, Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked side, with Senegal in second, while Nigeria continue to hold third place ahead of Algeria, Egypt, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Globally, there have been notable changes at the top, with France moving into first place ahead of Spain after a strong run of results. Argentina sit third, followed by England, Portugal, and Brazil, while the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany complete the top ten.
Elsewhere, Iran dropped slightly in the rankings after back-to-back defeats, while Jordan made a modest climb following their draws during the international window, including their result against Nigeria.
Looking ahead, the next FIFA rankings update is expected in June, with potential for significant movement as attention shifts toward upcoming global competitions. Nigeria, however, will not be part of the next FIFA World Cup after missing out in the qualifiers, and will instead turn focus to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this year.
