Senegal and Ghana have been crowned champions of the 2026 edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championship, winning the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in a thrilling finale held in Harare.
The tournament, which concluded on April 10 at the Ngoni Stadium, showcased some of Africa’s most promising young football talents and delivered dramatic finishes in both categories.
Senegal Triumph in Boys Final
Senegal claimed the boys’ title after a tense 5–4 penalty shootout victory over Uganda, following a goalless draw in regulation time.

The closely contested encounter saw both sides create several scoring opportunities, but neither could break the deadlock. Senegal, nicknamed the “Teranga Cubs,” ultimately held their composure in the shootout to secure the continental crown.
Ghana Retain Girls Title in Dramatic Fashion
In the girls’ category, Ghana successfully defended their title with a dramatic 9–8 penalty shootout win over Burkina Faso after another 0–0 draw.
The “Black Damsels” displayed remarkable resilience and composure under pressure, edging their opponents in one of the most intense finals of the competition’s history.
Prize Money to Support Development
As champions, Senegal and Ghana each received $300,000 in prize money, while runners-up Uganda and Burkina Faso earned $200,000 apiece.
The funds, sponsored by the Motsepe Foundation, are earmarked for development projects within the participating schools, reinforcing the competition’s commitment to education and grassroots football growth.
A Platform for Africa’s Future Stars
The 2026 tournament, the fourth edition of the competition, took place from April 6 to 10 in Harare and brought together emerging talents from across the continent.
Organized by the Confederation of African Football, the championship continues to play a vital role in youth development by combining sport and education, positively impacting millions of young players across Africa.
Notably, Nigeria did not qualify for the main tournament after being eliminated in the CAF/WAFU Zone B qualifiers.
