Former Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje has urged sweeping reforms within the Nigeria Football Federation, warning that the current system is holding Nigerian football back.
Speaking in a radio interview with Brila FM, Sodje did not hold back in his assessment of the situation, stressing that the country must take a hard look at its football structure following recent setbacks involving the Super Eagles.
“It’s gone now we have to start thinking about where we are as a country, the NFF has to be reformed, the old guards has to give way, we have to understand that preparation is key,” he said.
The former defender pointed to deeper issues beyond just performances on the pitch, insisting that Nigeria is lagging behind in organisation and long-term planning compared to other footballing nations.
“We have to start preparing for the next one because we are so behind when it comes to organization, technically we are so behind as well.
“When I say technically I am not talking about Eric Chelle and the technical crew of the national team. I am talking about the technical committee at the NFF, they have to do better.”
Sam Sodje also stressed the importance of having a clear football identity and direction, arguing that fans deserve more from those in charge of the game in the country.
“We have to know exactly what we want for our country, it’s not fair to the fans we deserve better.”
His comments come at a time of growing scrutiny over the federation’s leadership and structure, with calls increasing for reforms aimed at restoring Nigeria’s competitiveness on the international stage.
