The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Coach Akeem Ishola Busari as the new Head Coach of the U17 girls’ national team, the Flamingos.

The appointment was approved by the NFF Executive Committee following a recommendation from the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee.

Busari takes over with extensive experience and a strong understanding of women’s football. He replaces Coach Bankole Olowookere, who spent several years with the Flamingos and led the team to a bronze medal finish at the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals in India.

The new coach faces an immediate challenge as he prepares the team for the qualification race for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by Morocco. The Flamingos are set to face the winner of the preliminary fixture between Niger Republic and Guinea, with the first leg scheduled to be played away from home in the third week of next month.

Busari currently serves as Head Coach of Pacesetter Queens Football Club of Ibadan.
