Kelechi Iheanacho delivered a dramatic late winner as Celtic FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Dundee FC in their league clash at Dens Park on Sunday.
The Super Eagles striker, who had endured a frustrating 182-day goal drought, came off the bench to seal victory for the Scottish champions, marking a crucial moment in both his personal resurgence and Celtic’s title ambitions.
Celtic made an early statement in the encounter, taking the lead in the ninth minute through Benjamin Nygren, who finished from close range after a well-worked attacking move. The visitors controlled much of the first half but were unable to extend their advantage.
The hosts responded after the break, with Simon Murray drawing Dundee level in the 57th minute from the penalty spot, setting up a tense finale at Dens Park.
Seeking a decisive edge, Celtic manager turned to Iheanacho shortly after the equaliser, introducing him in place of Tomáš Čvančara. The substitution proved inspired.
In the 82nd minute, Iheanacho rose to the occasion, showing composure and sharp instincts inside the box. He expertly controlled a delivery from Marcelo Saracchi before firing home the winning goal to restore Celtic’s lead.
The strike not only ended Iheanacho’s long wait for a goal but also secured three vital points for Celtic as they continue their push for domestic supremacy.
The Nigerian forward will hope this decisive contribution marks the beginning of a return to consistent scoring form as the season reaches its critical stage.
