Four members of Uganda’s boxing team have gone missing following the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The missing athletes have been identified as Angel Katushabe, Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Khemis and Emily Nakalema.

According to Ugandan outlet NBS Sports, the four boxers failed to rejoin the rest of the national team ahead of their scheduled return to Uganda after the Games.

One of the missing athletes, who spoke to NBS Sports on condition of anonymity, said the group intends to seek asylum.

The boxer explained that the four athletes want to continue their boxing careers in a country that offers better training facilities, improved support systems and greater opportunities to develop their talent.

The athletes also appealed to Ugandans for understanding, urging the public not to judge them for the decision they have taken.

Ugandan officials have launched efforts to locate the missing boxers, while the country’s Ministry of Education and Sports is expected to issue an official statement on the incident.
