Godwin Festus, a 19-year-old defender and winger with Ekiti United FC, is rapidly establishing himself as one of the standout young talents in Nigeria’s National League (NNL), following a career path shaped by resilience, international exposure, and steady development.
Festus began his football journey at Phoenix Academy in Ekiti State, where he developed a reputation for his discipline, technical quality, and strong work ethic. His early promise earned him a loan move to Ladegbuwa FC in 2023, a decision that would significantly impact his career trajectory.
During his time with Ladegbuwa FC, Festus featured in the prestigious Viareggio Tournament in Italy, a globally recognized youth competition. Competing against top international sides, he impressed with composed defensive displays and attacking contributions from the right-back position. His performance against Brazilian opposition, where he scored, marked a major highlight and drew attention from European scouts.
Following the tournament, interest emerged from Portuguese clubs including Braga and Famalicão, leading to trial opportunities. However, regulatory constraints due to his age prevented an immediate transfer.

In 2024, Festus secured a move to AVS Futebol SAD in Portugal, but visa-related issues forced a premature return to Nigeria before he could fully integrate into the team. A subsequent trial in Bulgaria also showed promise, though financial limitations at the club halted a potential deal.
Despite these setbacks, Festus has continued his development at Ekiti United, where he has become a key member of the squad. Known for his versatility, he operates effectively as both a fullback and winger, contributing to both defensive stability and attacking play.

So far this season, he has recorded one goal and two assists in 16 appearances, playing an important role in Ekiti United’s push for a top-five finish in the NNL.
His performances have once again attracted interest beyond Nigeria, with clubs in North Africa, particularly in Morocco and Egypt, as well as teams in the Middle East, monitoring his progress.
As he continues to gain experience and consistency, Festus remains focused on securing a move to Europe, where he aims to compete at a higher level and further develop his game.
With his combination of versatility, pace, and tactical discipline, Godwin Festus is widely regarded as a player to watch, as he looks to take the next step in his professional career.
