Defending champions Nigeria will look to seal a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) when they face Egypt in their final Group C fixture on Wednesday, Trybal News reports.

The Super Falcons revived their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia after suffering a surprise opening defeat to tournament debutants Malawi. The win put Nigeria back in contention for a place in the knockout stage as they continue their quest to retain the continental title and secure qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Despite Egypt’s difficult start to the tournament, losing 6-0 to Zambia before falling 3-1 to group leaders Malawi, Nigeria are expected to approach the contest with caution, aware that previous results offer no guarantees in tournament football.

Head coach Justin Madugu will be forced into changes after defender Tosin Demehin and midfielder Jennifer Echegini were ruled out through suspension. Demehin received a red card during the victory over Zambia, while Echegini accumulated two yellow cards across Nigeria’s opening two matches.

Madugu is expected to reshuffle his side, with Christy Ucheibe likely to continue in central defence alongside veteran Osinachi Ohale after impressing following Demehin’s dismissal. Toni Payne could also return to midfield alongside captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimatu Ayinde.

In attack, Asisat Oshoala, whose goal secured victory over Zambia, is expected to lead the line once again, with Uchenna Kanu pushing for a starting role after making an impact in Nigeria’s opening match against Malawi.

A victory over Egypt would confirm Nigeria’s place in the quarter-finals and keep the Super Falcons firmly on course for a record-extending continental crown.
