Ademola Lookman got his 2026/27 campaign off to a flying start after scoring twice as Atlético Madrid defeated Getafe in their opening pre-season friendly, Trybal News reports.
The Super Eagles forward was handed a starting role by Diego Simeone and wasted no time announcing himself, opening the scoring just five minutes into the contest. Lookman reacted quickest after Mendoza’s effort came back off the woodwork, slotting home the rebound to give Atlético the lead.

The Nigerian doubled his tally just after the half-hour mark, timing his run perfectly to meet a pinpoint cross from Carlos Martín before firing a first-time left-footed finish into the net for his second of the afternoon.
It was an impressive outing for Lookman, who joined Atlético Madrid in January and did not have the benefit of a full pre-season with the club last season. With a complete preparation now under his belt, the 28-year-old looks ready to play a bigger role in Simeone’s plans.
Reports in Spain indicate the Atlético boss is considering using Lookman as a second striker rather than in his traditional wide role, a move that could bring out the best in the Nigerian attacker.
His clinical display against Getafe will certainly boost confidence ahead of the new La Liga season, with both Atlético fans and Nigerian supporters hoping the Super Eagles star can carry this form into the competitive campaign.
