Premier League club Fulham have reportedly seen a €20 million bid for Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu fall short of Trabzonspor’s valuation, with the Turkish side insisting the centre-back is worth at least €35 million, Trybal News reports.

Nwaiwu has emerged as one of the most sought-after young defenders in Europe following an outstanding second half of the season with Trabzonspor. The 22-year-old joined the Turkish outfit from Austrian club Wolfsberger AC in January and quickly established himself as a key figure in the team.

The Nigerian impressed with a series of commanding displays at the heart of Trabzonspor’s defence, while also contributing in attack with three goals and one assist in 16 league appearances. He was also part of the side that lifted the Turkish Cup, further enhancing his growing reputation.

According to reports from Turkey, Fulham have already made an initial approach worth €20 million, but Trabzonspor have made it clear that they are unwilling to part ways with the defender for anything less than €35 million.

The Black Sea Storm view Nwaiwu as one of their most valuable assets and are determined to retain him unless a substantial offer arrives. His rapid rise in Turkey has attracted attention from a number of European clubs, with Fulham among those keen to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season.

Trabzonspor are nevertheless preparing for all possibilities and have reportedly identified Gambian defender Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh of Tromsø IL as a potential replacement should Nwaiwu eventually depart.

With Fulham’s opening offer rejected and Trabzonspor standing firm on their valuation, it remains to be seen whether the Premier League side will return with an improved bid for the highly-rated Nigerian defender in the coming weeks.
