Emmanuel Fernandez has been named Men’s Player of the Year at Rangers FC for the 2025/26 season, capping off a remarkable debut campaign with the Scottish giants.
The 24-year-old centre-back received the club’s highest individual honour during the annual awards ceremony on Sunday, following a series of commanding performances that quickly established him as a cornerstone of the team.
Fernandez, who joined Rangers from Peterborough United FC last summer, made an immediate impact in Scottish football. His composure, aerial dominance, and leadership at the back saw him emerge as one of the most consistent performers in the squad.
In the Scottish Premiership, Fernandez contributed five goals in 23 appearances, an impressive return for a defender while playing a crucial role in helping Rangers secure 12 clean sheets over the course of the season.
His influence extended beyond league action. Fernandez featured prominently in European competition and made his mark in domestic cup fixtures, notably scoring against Alloa Athletic FC in the Scottish League Cup.
The defender’s outstanding form has not gone unnoticed at a national level. He earned a place in the PFA ScotlandPremiership Team of the Year, notably as the only Rangers player included, underlining his individual excellence throughout the campaign.
On the international stage, Fernandez has also begun to make his presence felt with the Nigeria national football team. He has earned two caps, scoring on his first start after debuting against Iran national football team and finding the net again against Jordan national football team.
This award marks a significant milestone in Fernandez’s career, completing a rapid rise from England’s lower leagues to becoming one of the standout performers at Ibrox within just one season.
With his trajectory continuing upward, Rangers fans will be hopeful that Fernandez’s debut campaign is only the beginning of a long and successful spell in Glasgow.
