Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface is on course for a return to action before the end of the season after Werder Bremen confirmed his comeback from injury.
The Nigerian forward has endured a difficult campaign, having joined Bremen on a season-long loan in a surprise move last summer. His struggle for regular minutes was followed by a knee injury in December, which later required surgery in January and was initially expected to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Following the setback, Boniface returned to his parent club, Bayer Leverkusen, where he began his rehabilitation. In recent weeks, the 23-year-old has shown encouraging signs of recovery, taking part in gym sessions and on-pitch training as he worked toward full fitness.
As part of his progress, the former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise striker also trained with Bayer Leverkusen’s U-19 side, further underlining his improving condition.
Werder Bremen have now confirmed that Boniface has returned to the club to complete the final phase of his recovery. He is expected to begin individual training immediately, with a gradual reintegration into full team sessions anticipated if his fitness continues to improve.
A return to competitive action is now within reach, with the striker potentially available before the end of the campaign.
His comeback could come at a crucial time for Werder Bremen, who are currently hovering above the relegation zone in the Bundesliga and remain in a tight battle to secure their top-flight status.
