Nigeria’s men’s and women’s teams have secured places in the finals of the 2026 IWBF Africa 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball Commonwealth Games Qualifiers in Luanda, Angola, following strong semifinal performances on Thursday.

Both sides defeated Kenya to book their spots in the title deciders, with the men claiming a 10-5 victory, while the women delivered a solid 5-2 win in their respective matches.

The victories keep Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 Commonwealth Games alive, as they now prepare for a decisive clash against South Africa in both categories.

South Africa, however, heads into the finals with confidence, having beaten Nigeria in the group stage earlier in the tournament. The South African men recorded a 10-5 win, while their women’s team edged Nigeria 5-2, maintaining an unbeaten record so far.

Despite those earlier setbacks, Nigeria has shown resilience throughout the competition, with standout contributions from players such as Shittu Musbau and Olabisi Ijigbamigbe, who have played key roles in the teams’ progress.

The tournament, which runs from March 22 to March 27 in Luanda, serves as a crucial qualification pathway for African nations aiming to compete at the Commonwealth Games.

With qualification and titles at stake, Nigeria will be determined to turn the tables on South Africa in what promises to be thrilling final encounters.
