Calvin Bassey delivered a commanding defensive performance as Fulham F.C. defeated Tottenham Hotspur F.C. 2-1 in a Premier League London derby at Craven Cottage.

Fulham made a fast start and went ahead in the seventh minute through Harry Wilson. The Welsh winger reacted quickly to a deflected cut back and struck a sharp volley into the net to give the hosts an early lead.

The advantage was doubled in the 34th minute after a smooth attacking move ended with Alex Iwobi curling a powerful 25 yard shot into the far corner off the post. The goal marked Iwobi’s second in consecutive league matches, the first time he has achieved that feat since 2016.

Bassey played a key role in protecting the lead before halftime. In the 40th minute, he blocked a close range effort from Randal Kolo Muani and quickly reacted again to prevent Joao Palhinha from scoring on the rebound. He later tried his luck in added time but volleyed over the bar from close range.

Tottenham improved after the break and nearly scored in the 63rd minute, but Guglielmo Vicario denied Emile Smith Rowe after a through pass from Iwobi. Spurs eventually pulled one back in the 66th minute when Richarlison headed home from close range after a well delivered cross.

Fulham continued to threaten on the counter. In the 78th minute, substitute Samuel Chukwueze drove forward and set up Iwobi, but the midfielder’s first time effort missed the target.

Calvin Bassey completed the full 90 minutes and was outstanding at the back. He made four clearances, blocked three shots, recorded six recoveries and won five of his eight aerial duels. He also had 75 touches and completed 47 of his 54 passes, while registering two attempts on goal.

The result means Fulham have now won four of their last five league meetings with Tottenham and secured a rare league double over their London rivals. Tottenham remain without a win in their last 10 Premier League matches, equalling a club record set in 1994. The defeat leaves Spurs in 16th place, just four points above the relegation zone.
