Bruno Onyemaechi delivered a solid performance as defending champions Olympiacos secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Panetolikos in their Greek Super League encounter.
Fresh from his late second half appearance in the UEFA Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen, the Super Eagles left back was handed a starting role and played a key part in maintaining a clean sheet. Olympiacos controlled possession for long spells and eventually broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. Lorenzo Pirola met an inviting delivery from Chiquinho inside the box and directed his header into the bottom left corner to give the hosts a deserved lead before the interval.
Olympiacos continued to dictate the tempo in the second half while Panetolikos struggled to create clear chances. The defending champions remained organised at the back, with Onyemaechi contributing defensively and in build up play. The points were sealed late in the game when Yusuf Yazici struck with his left foot from inside the area in the 89th minute to double the advantage and put the result beyond doubt.
The win moves Olympiacos to 50 points after 22 matches, keeping them top of the table with AEK Athens and PAOK close behind in the regular season title race.
Bruno Onyemaechi was effective throughout his 82 minutes on the pitch before being replaced by Francisco Ortega. He won both of his tackles, made five recoveries, claimed four of his six ground duels, recorded 73 touches and completed 41 of 51 passes in an assured display at left back.
