Crystal Palace have excluded Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche from their squad for the UEFA Europa Conference League following the registration of three winter additions.

The adjustment was made after Palace progressed to the knockout phase and were required to submit an updated list in line with competition regulations. New arrivals Brennan Johnson, Jørgen Strand Larsen, and Evann Guessand were all included, leaving the Nigerian as the casualty due to the club’s limited squad allocation.

With only three homegrown players available, Palace could register just 24 names, forcing head coach Oliver Glasner into a difficult selection decision.

Uche has found opportunities hard to come by since arriving from Getafe CF on loan last summer. European fixtures had offered him more minutes than domestic action, with four continental appearances totaling 174 minutes, while his involvement in the Premier League has largely been from the bench.

The 22-year-old has made only a handful of starts across all competitions, although he briefly grabbed attention in December when his superb outside-of-the-boot effort against KuPS Kuopio earned him the club’s Goal of the Month prize after dominating the supporters’ vote.

Questions now surround the attacker’s long-term stay in South London. His temporary switch includes a mandatory purchase clause that becomes active if he starts ten matches this season, a milestone that appears increasingly difficult to reach.

However, a possible change in direction could emerge at the end of the campaign, with Glasner expected to step aside, potentially handing Uche another chance to revive his prospects under a new managerial setup.
