Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has revealed that he requested his release from Chippa United without securing a move elsewhere, stating that he is prepared to remain patient until the right club arrives.
Speaking with Andile Nchube, the Nigerian shot-stopper admitted that he currently has no contract offers and cannot predict when his next opportunity will come.
There is no contract in front, there is no club in front, and I am not guaranteeing you that a club will come today or tomorrow,” Nwabali said.
I am not desperate to get a club, but whatever club that comes, if it suits my agent and it suits me, I am going to play.”
Nwabali disclosed that the decision to leave the South African club was made while he was representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, describing it as a difficult but important step for his career.
It was a tough decision. It is not a nice feeling but in football, you have to make a step forward. It was something I really needed to do,” he explained, noting that both parties reached a mutual understanding before agreeing to part ways.
While the goalkeeper chose not to detail the exact reasons behind his departure, he emphasised that personal happiness plays a crucial role in professional football.
Football is something that deals with happiness. Your happiness comes first,” he added.
The 29-year-old also made it clear that his next move will be guided by ambition, as he hopes to compete for titles and test himself at a higher level.
Every player wants to win a trophy and play on a bigger stage. My dream is to win something,” Nwabali said.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, the former Chippa United captain disclosed that he has yet to receive calls from interested clubs.
There are no calls yet. The only calls are from my family and friends and people that are shocked at the news.”
With transfer windows in several leagues already closed, Nwabali may have to wait for his next chapter, but his pedigree with the Super Eagles is expected to attract suitors in the near future.
