Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru made his return from injury as Lazio secured a 3-1 victory over Monza at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Sunday, Trybal News reports.
The Nigerian international had been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury on the opening day of the season against Bologna, ruling him out of Lazio’s subsequent competitive fixtures and Nigeria’s international engagements.
His absence saw him miss the Super Eagles’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, as well as the international friendly against Russia.
However, after receiving medical clearance, Dele-Bashiru was named in Lazio’s matchday squad and introduced in the 60th minute as a substitute for Davide Frattesi, marking his first competitive appearance in 48 days.
Lazio had established an early advantage through goals from Nuno Tavares and Gustav Isaksen before Saba Goglichidze pulled one back for Monza in the second half. Andrea Pinamonti sealed the victory with a late strike in the 88th minute.
Despite his limited time on the pitch, Dele-Bashiru delivered an encouraging performance, completing all 11 of his passes with 15 touches, one key pass, two defensive contributions, two clearances and one aerial duel won.
The 24-year-old’s return provides a timely boost for Lazio as he looks to regain match fitness and re-establish himself in the team following his spell on the sidelines.
