The International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) has honoured Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, with its International Recognition Award for Sports Development, Trybal News reports.
The award recognises Otu’s support for sports in Cross River State, with the IKF particularly acknowledging his efforts towards the development of Kabaddi and the welfare of athletes.
In a September 15, 2026 letter signed by IKF President Vinod Kumar Tiwari, the international body commended the governor’s leadership and continued encouragement of sporting activities across the state.
Otu is expected to receive the award during the International Delegates Meet on October 29, held as part of the Kabaddi Commonwealth Championship in India.
The championship is scheduled to take place from October 21 to 30, with the IKF also inviting the governor to attend the event and personally receive the honour.
The recognition places further international attention on Cross River State’s growing involvement in sports development, particularly its efforts to promote Kabaddi and create opportunities for young athletes.
The IKF award also highlights the increasing international recognition of initiatives aimed at strengthening grassroots sports and developing sporting talent in the state.
