Super Eagles defenders Calvin Bassey and midfielder Alex Iwobi were both involved as Fulham secured their first point of the season with a goalless draw against Liverpool at Anfield, Trybal News reports.

Fulham produced a disciplined and competitive performance to leave Anfield with a deserved 0–0 draw, with Bassey playing the full match at the heart of the defence while Iwobi featured for 77 minutes.

Bassey was particularly impressive defensively, helping Fulham maintain a clean sheet against a Liverpool side that created several opportunities. The Nigerian centre-back recorded five clearances and one interception, while winning all three of his ground duels. He also won one of his two aerial duels and made one successful tackle.

The 40 touches and 28 passes attempted by Bassey reflected Fulham’s willingness to play out from the back, while his defensive contributions were crucial in protecting Bernd Leno’s goal.

Leno was also instrumental for the visitors, producing an outstanding save to deny Victor Munoz in the first half and making further important stops after the break.

Iwobi, meanwhile, had a quieter outing by his usual standards. Deployed on the left after Sander Berge’s introduction into midfield, the Nigerian international completed 33 of 38 passes, recorded 49 touches and three recoveries, and remained on the pitch until the 77th minute.

Iwobi had a couple of efforts blocked early in the second half but otherwise found it difficult to exert his usual influence as Fulham focused on maintaining their defensive structure and taking advantage of opportunities on the counter.

With the Super Eagles upcoming international qualifiers looming, the performances of both Nigerians will be closely monitored as Nigeria prepares for another crucial international window. Bassey’s assured display at the back provides an encouraging sign, while Iwobi’s experience and versatility remain important assets for the national team.

The point represents an important result for Fulham, particularly after their opening matches of the season, while the clean sheet provides an encouraging foundation for the campaign.

Bassey’s defensive solidity was one of the positives to emerge from Fulham’s performance, while Iwobi contributed to a disciplined team display despite enjoying a relatively quiet afternoon.
