Wales national football team will face African opposition for the first time when they take on Ghana national football team in an international friendly this summer.
The match is scheduled for Tuesday, 2 June at the Cardiff City Stadium, with the kick off time yet to be confirmed.
The Black Stars have already secured qualification for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 where they will compete in a challenging group alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team.
Wales are still battling to join them in North America. The Welsh side must first navigate a play off against Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team on Thursday, 26 March. If they win that encounter, they will host either Italy national football team or Northern Ireland national football team five days later for a place at the tournament.
Interestingly, Wales have only faced an African side once before. That meeting came in a 1998 friendly against Tunisia national football team, a match that ended in a 4 0 defeat. Current head coach Craig Bellamy featured in that game as a striker.
Ghana’s squad includes Antoine Semenyo, the Manchester City forward who previously spent time on loan at Newport County.
The meeting with Ghana will be one of two international friendlies scheduled for Wales in June, with the identity of their second opponent yet to be announced.
