Wahid Oshodi has been appointed to the board of World Table Tennis, marking a major milestone in global table tennis governance following confirmation at the International Table Tennis Federation Executive Board meeting held on March 1, 2026 in Singapore.

The Nigerian administrator, who currently serves as president of the African Table Tennis Federation, becomes the first African to be named a full director on the WTT board since its establishment in 2019. His appointment reflects the growing influence of African representation within the sport’s global leadership structure.

Following the allocation of portfolios, ITTF President Petra Sorling and Executive Vice President Oshodi were selected as representatives of the governing body on the WTT board. At a subsequent meeting, Sorling was confirmed as chair, succeeding Liu Guoliang and Khalil Al Mohannadi.

The ITTF, as the majority owner of WTT, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the commercial arm continues to deliver sustainable growth and value for the sport and its global membership.

Speaking after the appointment, Sorling emphasised the importance of strong leadership and accountability in driving the organisation forward.

“The ITTF has always been the foundation on which table tennis thrives, and WTT is our instrument to take it further,” she said.

“As chair of the board, I am here to ensure that WTT operates with profitability, governance, accountability, and long-term vision. The potential is significant, and what we owe players, fans, and the broader table tennis community is the discipline to realise it.”

Oshodi also expressed his commitment to strengthening governance and supporting the long term development of the organisation.

“Strong governance is what gives an organisation the structure to grow sustainably. I look forward to contributing to that work as the board focuses on putting solid foundations in place for WTT’s long-term development.”

His appointment further underlines his growing influence in international table tennis, having previously led the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation where he introduced reforms aimed at improving governance, transparency and player development.

Oshodi’s elevation to the WTT board is seen as a significant step for African involvement in global sports administration, as the organisation continues to expand its commercial and competitive reach worldwide.
