Victor Osimhen scored his 12th league goal of the season as Galatasaray secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Super Lig.
The Nigerian striker, making his 16th league start for the club, played a key role in the win before being substituted in the 75th minute.
The first half ended without a goal despite Galatasaray controlling much of the possession and pushing forward in search of an early breakthrough. The hosts eventually found the opener shortly after the restart in the 57th minute. A well delivered free kick from Noa Lang was floated into the penalty area and Wilfried Singo reacted quickest at the back post to tap the ball into the net and give Galatasaray the lead.
Osimhen came close to adding his name to the scoresheet in spectacular fashion in the 64th minute. The striker attempted an ambitious scissors kick after meeting a cross from Yilmaz inside the box, but his effort struck the woodwork and bounced away.
The Nigerian forward did not have to wait long to make his impact. Just two minutes later, Yunus Akgun delivered a precise ball over the top of the defence which Osimhen controlled brilliantly with his chest before firing a powerful right footed shot past goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer to double Galatasaray’s advantage in the 66th minute.
Galatasaray continued to dominate proceedings and sealed the result late in the match. In the 84th minute, Yunus Akgun produced another decisive moment when he chased down a perfectly weighted through pass that split the Basaksehir defence. After reaching the ball inside the area, he cut it back for Renati Nhaga, who finished confidently to make it 3-0.
Victor Osimhen finished the match with five shots on goal, completed one of his four passes and recorded 12 touches during his time on the pitch before being replaced by Mauro Icardi.
The victory moves Galatasaray to 64 points at the top of the Turkish Super Lig table, extending their lead to seven points over rivals Fenerbahce, whose unbeaten league run ended on Friday with a defeat away to Fatih Karagumruk.
