Algerian club USM Alger have confirmed the appointment of Senegalese coach Lamine Ndiaye as their new head coach until the end of the 2025 to 26 season, with an option to extend his contract.

The 69 year old replaces Abdelhak Ben Cheikha, whose departure was announced at the end of January. Ndiaye will immediately begin preparations with the squad ahead of their quarter final fixture in the CAF Confederation Cup.

USM Alger are reinforcing their technical setup at a decisive point in their domestic and continental campaign, with a last eight clash against AS Maniema Union scheduled for next month.

In a statement, the club said Ndiaye had been appointed to lead the team “until the end of the current season, with the possibility of renewing the contract in the event of achieving positive results and meeting the objectives set by the management”.

The Algiers based side enjoyed a landmark success in 2023 when they won the CAF Confederation Cup, and expectations remain high among supporters who want to see the club compete strongly again at continental level.

Ndiaye’s immediate responsibility will be to maintain the momentum built during the group stage and ensure the team are well prepared for the knockout rounds. With a quarter final place secured and league fixtures continuing, he takes charge of a squad in a solid position but facing increasing pressure to deliver results.
