Victor Osimhen has admitted he would prefer Galatasaray SK to avoid Liverpool FC in Friday’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw.
Galatasaray advanced to the last 16 after a dramatic play off tie against Juventus FC on Wednesday night. The Turkish champions were pushed into extra time after Juventus scored three unanswered goals to level the tie at 5 5 on aggregate.
Osimhen restored Galatasaray’s aggregate lead in extra time before Baris Alper Yilmaz added another goal to seal qualification for the visitors.
The Turkish side will now face either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur FC in the next round, with the draw scheduled for 11am on Friday.
Galatasaray have already faced Liverpool in the league phase of this season’s competition, securing a 1 0 home win in September thanks to Osimhen’s first half penalty against the side managed by Arne Slot.
When asked which opponent he would prefer in the round of 16, Osimhen told CBS Sports: “I mean to be honest with you, meeting Liverpool now is going to be like some sort of revenge. Anyone we meet now… I wouldn’t say much but I would like to escape Liverpool. But if they come, yeah, we’re going to dig it out but it’s not going to be easy.”
“I mean this is Champions League, no team is easy, we can see how flying Bodo Glimt are really doing in this tournament.
If you want to win you also have to play the big dogs and make a statement for yourself.
We’ve met Liverpool but we haven’t played at Anfield. If we meet them it’s going to be an amazing game. I think we’re up to the task, it’s not going to be easy, of course, but we have fight in us,” Victor Osimhen added.
