Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has been named winner of Crystal Palace’s Goal of the Month award for December, marking his first major individual accolade since arriving in England.
The 22-year-old joined the Eagles on a season-long loan from Spanish La Liga side Getafe last summer after an impressive campaign in Spain, where he emerged as one of the standout young midfielders. However, Uche has found opportunities limited at Selhurst Park, starting just three matches across all competitions this season.
Despite his restricted game time, the Nigerian has made a strong impression whenever called upon. Palace manager Oliver Glasner has often hinted that Uche is not yet a central figure in his plans, but the midfielder’s performances in brief appearances have continued to draw attention.
Uche’s award-winning strike came in Crystal Palace’s 3–2 defeat to KuPS in the UEFA Europa Conference League, just days before Christmas. He opened the scoring in the fifth minute after collecting the ball outside the penalty area, beating his marker with a sharp drop of the shoulder and firing a superb outside-of-the-boot effort into the bottom-left corner.
The spectacular goal was widely regarded as one of the highlights of the competition that week and has now been officially recognised by the club, with Crystal Palace confirming Uche as their Goal of the Month winner for December.
The award serves as a timely boost for the Super Eagles Striker as he continues to push for more regular playing time in the second half of the season.
