Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare delivered an influential performance as Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Grimsby Town in their FA Cup fourth round tie at Blundell Park Stadium.
Wolves started on the front foot and created the first clear opportunity in the 15th minute. Defender Mosquera launched a long ball into the area and Arokodare beat his marker before attempting to chip the goalkeeper, but his effort sailed over the bar.
The visitors continued to threaten and came close again in the 34th minute when João Gomes struck a free kick from just outside the box. His well hit effort crashed against the junction of the post and crossbar, denying Wolves the opening goal.
Early in the second half, Wolves missed another good chance. Following a goal kick, Tolu Arokodare rose to challenge for a header, but the defender managed to get in front and played the ball back to goalkeeper Jackson Smith. His clearance fell to Armstrong, who failed to take advantage and sent his shot wide.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 60th minute. Mosquera delivered a throw in into the box and after André’s shot was blocked, the ball fell to João Gomes. The Brazilian drove to the byline and sent in a low cross that Santiago Bueno turned into the net. After falling behind, Grimsby Town pushed forward in search of an equaliser, committing more players in attack, while Wolves focused on retaining possession and exploiting spaces on the counter.
In the 82nd minute, Wolves squandered another opportunity to extend their lead. Arokodare whipped in a low cross that a defender failed to clear properly, allowing Armstrong to tee up Matheus Mané, but the forward fired over the bar.
At the final whistle, Wolves held on to book their place in the FA Cup Round of 16 after a tense and competitive encounter.
Tolu Arokodare played the full 90 minutes, registering three shots on target, completing nine of his 18 passes and recording 42 touches. He also won nine of his 19 aerial duels in a strong physical display during his second FA Cup appearance for Wolves. On his FA Cup debut for the club, he scored in a 6-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town in the third round in January 2026, coming off the bench in the 74th minute to contribute a goal and an assist.
