Nigerian striker Terem Moffi has completed a move to Portuguese heavyweights FC Porto from French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice in the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old joins the Dragons on a season-long loan, with the agreement including a non-obligatory purchase option valued at around €8 million. Porto and Nice reached a full agreement after days of negotiations, bringing an end to Moffi’s unsettled spell in France.
Moffi, who was previously sidelined after incidents involving Nice supporters in late November, is expected to travel to Portugal to undergo medical checks before finalising all formalities. The former Lorient forward had been away from competitive action following the fallout from that episode, which eventually saw him seek legal clearance to leave the club.
FC Porto moved decisively to secure his signature, beating off interest from several clubs across Europe, including Turkish giants Besiktas, who reportedly tabled a stronger financial offer. Despite the competition, Moffi was drawn to Porto’s sporting project and the chance to revive his career in a new environment.
The transfer also opens the door to a reunion with coach Francesco Farioli, who is familiar with Moffi’s profile from their time in Ligue 1. That existing relationship played a key role in the striker’s decision to choose the Estádio do Dragão as his next destination.
Moffi endured a difficult campaign at Nice, managing just two goals in ten appearances this season, a sharp contrast to his impressive first year at the club, where he finished as their leading scorer with 11 goals. His move to Portugal offers a fresh start and the opportunity to rediscover his scoring touch.
At international level, Moffi remains a trusted figure with the Super Eagles and was part of Nigeria’s squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Porto see the powerful forward as a potential answer to their attacking needs and retain the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season should he deliver.
