Speaking at the event, Oborewovori praised the initiative led by Dunamis Icon in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission, noting that the competition is designed to groom South-South athletes, strengthen grassroots development, and uncover future champions capable of representing Nigeria on the global stage.

Also present were Sports Commission Director General Emuobo Egalase and Football Association Chairman Godwin Adode, both of whom reiterated the state’s readiness to compete and urged athletes to seize the platform to showcase their talents.

Managing Director of Dunamis Icon, Itiakpo Ikpokpo, assured participating states that facilities and logistics have been fully prepared for a smooth tournament. He emphasized the importance of fair play, warning against age falsification and encouraging teams to adhere strictly to competition rules.

In keeping with the traditional relay, the Unity Touch was subsequently handed to NDDC representatives and former Nigerian swimming champion Blessing Forcadoes for onward transfer to Ondo State, continuing the build-up to the regional games.

With just days to the event, contingents are expected to arrive in Edo State from February 19, as organizers finalize arrangements for what is projected to be a landmark competition aimed at boosting sports development across the Niger Delta.
