Nigeria’s Super Eagles recorded a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Iran in their international friendly at the ongoing invitational tournament in Antalya, Turkey, delivering a confidence-boosting performance ahead of their next outing.

The Nigerian side made an electric start to the encounter, taking the lead inside the opening minutes through Moses Simon. The winger finished off a swift attacking move after linking up well on the break, giving Nigeria early control of the game.

With momentum on their side, the Super Eagles continued to threaten and nearly extended their advantage midway through the first half, carving open Iran’s defence with quick, incisive passing, but were unable to convert their chances.

Nigeria returned from the break with renewed purpose and doubled their lead in the 51st minute. A well-weighted pass from Ademola Lookman found Akor Adams, who showed composure to slot past the goalkeeper and make it 2–0.

Iran responded with increased urgency and reduced the deficit in the 68th minute when Mehdi Taremi finished from close range to set up a tense finale. The Asian side thought they had drawn level shortly after, but a potential equaliser was ruled out, allowing Nigeria to maintain their advantage.

As the game progressed, Nigeria made several changes to freshen up the squad, while Iran pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Despite sustained late pressure, the Super Eagles remained resolute at the back to see out the victory.

The win marks a positive step for Nigeria in the four-nation Antalya invitational tournament, which also features Jordan and Costa Rica, as the team continues to build cohesion and assess options within the squad.

Nigeria will now shift focus to their next friendly fixture against Jordan, where they will aim to build on this encouraging performance.
