The Super Eagles training camp in Cairo has continued to take shape with the arrival of defender Usman Mohammed on Tuesday morning, bringing the total number of players in camp to 25 ahead of Nigeria’s international friendly against Egypt.
Goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Stanley Nwabali and Amas Obasogie are already settled in camp alongside defenders Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi, Samuel Zaidu, Sanusi Calvin Bassey, Bruno Onyemaechi, Chidozie Awaziem, Igho Ogbu, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Ryan Alebiosu. The midfield unit includes Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, Fisayo Dele Bashiru and Akinsanmiro Ebenezer. While attacking options currently in camp are Ademola Lookman, Salim Fago, Paul Onuachu, Cyril Dessers, Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke
The national team is still expecting the arrival of Victor Osimhen, Moses and Samuel Chukwueze as preparations intensify ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
As part of their build up the Super Eagles will face the Pharaohs of Egypt in a friendly match on Tuesday at the Cairo International Stadium. The team completed its second training session on Tuesday morning as the coaching crew fine tuned tactical and physical preparations.
Following the friendly fixture, the Nigerian squad will depart Cairo for Fez on Thursday via a chartered flight where final preparations for the tournament will continue.
Nigeria will begin their quest for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title on December 23 when they face Tanzania. The Super Eagles who have previously lifted the trophy in 1980 1994 and 2013 are competing under the rallying theme Naija 4 The Win.
Group C fixtures will also see Nigeria take on Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30 with all matches set to be played at the Complexe Sportif de Fes.
Meanwhile hosts Egypt who remain the most successful nation in AFCON history and the only team to win the tournament three times in a row will compete in Group B alongside South Africa Angola and Zimbabwe with their group matches scheduled for Agadir.
