It was a quiet outing for Nigeria international Ademola Lookman as Atlético Madrid left it late to secure a 1–0 victory over Real Oviedo at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere.

Lookman, who started the encounter, endured a difficult first half and struggled to impose himself on proceedings before being substituted at the break for Julián Álvarez. In his 45 minutes on the pitch, the Super Eagles forward registered just one shot, completed three of his four passes, and had 15 touches, a modest return in a game where clear-cut chances were scarce.

Atlético’s performance reflected their recent away struggles in LaLiga. Despite coming off a commanding 4–1 UEFA Champions League play-off second-leg win over Club Brugge, Diego Simeone’s side failed to record a single shot on target before halftime against the league’s bottom side. The visitors lacked rhythm and attacking sharpness, with Lookman and his teammates unable to break down a determined Oviedo defence.

The hosts showed flashes of promise themselves, with Federico Viñas testing Jan Oblak early on, while the Atlético goalkeeper produced two fine saves just before the interval to keep the scores level.

After the restart, Atleti improved slightly but still found chances hard to come by. A goalless draw appeared certain until stoppage time, when substitute Julián Álvarez produced a composed left-footed finish inside the area to snatch all three points for the visitors.

The dramatic win ends Atlético’s run of three consecutive away league matches without victory and strengthens their grip on a top-four spot, moving them nine points clear of fifth-placed Real Betis. For Oviedo, the defeat leaves them eight points from safety as their survival hopes continue to fade.

For Lookman, it was a quiet and disappointing night. He will hope to bounce back in the next game as Atlético continue their fight on all fronts this season.
