RS Berkane booked a historic place in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League after a dramatic 1-0 victory over Al Hilal Omdurman in Kigali secured a 2-1 aggregate win on Sunday, Trybal News reports.
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Berkane took control of possession from the start but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Al Hilal side. The Moroccan team created several openings but were left frustrated, even missing a penalty that could have given them an early advantage.
Al Hilal remained dangerous on the counter and stayed firmly in the contest, with Berkane goalkeeper Anas Zniti producing a series of crucial saves to keep his side level as tension grew throughout the match.
With the game heading towards extra time, Berkane finally found the breakthrough deep into stoppage time. Chouiar struck in the 93rd minute to send the Moroccan side into wild celebrations and seal their passage into the last four.
The late goal proved decisive as Berkane held on through the final moments to confirm a famous qualification, marking their first ever appearance in the semi-finals of Africa’s premier club competition.
The result also ensures a Moroccan presence in the final, with AS FAR already through to the semi-finals on the same side of the draw. RS Berkane will now face their compatriots for a place in the final.
For Al Hilal, it was a painful exit after holding firm for most of the contest, only to see their hopes slip away in the closing seconds of a tightly contested tie.
