Plateau United claimed a dramatic 2-1 away victory over Remo Stars thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Harrison Ebah, a result that eased their relegation worries while plunging Remo Stars deeper into danger on matchday 24 of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Remo Stars, forced to play their home fixture at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin due to the ban on their Ikenne ground and the Lekan Salami Stadium being deemed unfit, endured a difficult afternoon that began disastrously in the first half. Maduabuchi Fabian was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession in the 14th and 16th minutes, leaving the Sky Blue Stars with a numerical disadvantage for most of the contest.
Plateau United took advantage of the red card in the 28th minute when Jonathan Okechukwu delivered a well struck free kick to put the visitors ahead. Remo Stars tried to respond, but Plateau United goalkeeper John Amah produced a fine save to keep his side in front before the break.
Despite being a man down, Remo Stars showed resilience after the interval and found a way back into the game in the 62nd minute. Liberian winger Albert Korvah scored his first goal for the club with a composed finish, restoring parity and giving the home side renewed belief.
Both teams battled intensely as the match moved into its closing stages, but it was Plateau United who had the final say. In the 91st minute, defender Harrison Ebah unleashed a long range effort that found the net, sealing a crucial victory for the Peace Boys and silencing the Remo Stars bench and supporters.
The defeat leaves Remo Stars in serious relegation trouble, sitting 18th on the table with 26 points after suffering their 14th loss of the season. Plateau United move up to 14th place with 30 points, three clear of the drop zone.
Elsewhere in the concluding fixtures of matchday 24, Kwara United boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 win over Warri Wolves, inspired by a brace from Olaniyi Saheed. Barau also recorded a 1-0 home victory over Ikorodu City through a 29th minute strike from Uche Moses, lifting the newly promoted side to 13th position with 30 points, while Ikorodu City remain fourth with 38 points.
