Remo Stars have been ordered to play their remaining home matches of the 2025 /2026 season at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan following crowd trouble at their home ground in Ikenne.

The Nigeria Professional Football League confirmed the sanctions in a statement posted on its official X account. The league said Remo Stars were charged for breaching NPFL Framework and Rules during their Matchday 20 fixture against Ikorodu City on January 14 2026.

According to the NPFL, the champions failed to provide adequate and effective security, which led to a brawl between supporters of both clubs. The incident resulted in injuries to away fans and damage to vehicles. The league also stated that Remo Stars did not ensure proper conduct of their supporters, who harassed and intimidated match officials.

It was further reported that objects were thrown onto the pitch, causing several stoppages during the game. Supporters were also accused of bringing dangerous objects and weapons into the stadium, behaviour the NPFL described as capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

As a result, Remo Stars were fined N2m for failing to provide adequate and effective security and another N1m for throwing objects onto the field of play. The club was also fined N1m for improper conduct of supporters and an additional N1m for misconduct capable of bringing the game into disrepute. A further N2m fine was imposed as compensation for damage to the away team bus and supporters.

In addition to the financial penalties, Remo Stars have been instructed to play all their remaining NPFL26 home matches at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. The club has 48 hours from the date of notification to appeal the sanctions.

The punishment comes just weeks after Remo Stars returned to their renovated stadium in Ikenne for the second half of the 2025/26 season. They had made their long awaited return on January 7 when they hosted Ikorodu City, ending a five month spell away from home in Abeokuta.

This season has been difficult for the Sky Blue Stars, with poor recruitment and uncertainty around head coach Daniel Ogunmodede, who has been on national team duty with the Super Eagles and has also had issues with the club board. Remo Stars are currently 15th on the table with 25 points, just two points above the relegation zone after recording eight wins, one draw and 12 losses.
