The Premier League has publicly backed Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare after he was subjected to racist abuse on social media.

Arokodare received offensive messages online following Wolves’ 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, a game in which he missed a first-half penalty. The incident has drawn strong condemnation across English football.

In an official statement, the Premier League condemned the abuse and promised support for the player and his club.

We are appalled by the unacceptable online racist abuse targeted at Wolves’ Tolu Arokodare.

There are serious consequences for anybody found guilty and we will offer the club and player our full support with investigations.

Football is for everyone – there is no room for racism.”

The league body reiterated its commitment to working with clubs and authorities to identify those responsible and ensure appropriate action is taken.

Similar incidents were also reported over the weekend, with Wesley Fofana of Chelsea and Hannibal Mejbri of Burnley also raising concerns about online abuse on Instagram following their sides’ 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.
