Paul Onuachu continued his impressive scoring form on Monday night, scoring twice as Trabzonspor defeated Kayserispor 3–1 in their Turkish Süper Lig clash.
The Nigerian striker struck both goals in first-half stoppage time to give Trabzonspor a comfortable advantage heading into the break. Onuachu opened the scoring with a towering header from a cross delivered from the right flank before calmly converting from the penalty spot moments later to make it 2–0.
Trabzonspor extended their lead in the second half after Kayserispor goalkeeper Bilal Bayazit inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. German Onugha later pulled one back for the hosts in the 82nd minute, but it proved only a consolation as the visitors held on for victory.
Onuachu was lively throughout the encounter, finishing the match with five shots, 27 touches of the ball and completing eight of his 11 passes.
The brace further strengthened the Super Eagles forward’s position at the top of the league’s scoring chart, taking his tally to 20 goals and two assists in the Turkish top flight this season, four goals ahead of his closest rival.
Monday’s goals also extended Onuachu’s scoring streak in the league to seven consecutive matches, having previously found the net against Kasimpasa, Antalyaspor, Samsunspor, Fenerbahçe, Gaziantep FK and Fatih Karagümrük.
With the victory, Trabzonspor consolidated third place on the table with 54 points from 25 matches, trailing league leaders Galatasaray by seven points as the season enters a decisive stage.
