Victor Osimhen cut a frustrated figure at full-time despite Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Galatasaray striker played a key role in the Super Eagles dominant display, scoring two goals and remaining a constant threat before he was substituted in the 68th minute. Osimhen first tapped home from close range after Ademola Lookman’s cross, before adding his second early in the second half with another composed finish.
In addition to his brace, Osimhen registered multiple shots on target, led Nigeria’s press from the front and occupied Mozambique’s defence throughout his time on the pitch, helping create space for his teammates as Nigeria maintained control of the contest.
However, moments before his substitution, the 27-year-old was involved in a brief on-field disagreement with Lookman, an exchange that appeared to stem from a breakdown in communication during an attacking move. The situation was quickly diffused, but Osimhen’s frustration was evident.
At the final whistle, the striker walked straight down the tunnel rather than joining the rest of the squad on the pitch, even as Nigeria celebrated one of their biggest AFCON wins, sealing progression to the quarter-finals.
Despite the incident, Osimhen’s contribution proved decisive, as the Super Eagles comfortably advanced, extending their strong run in the tournament and underlining their status as one of the competition’s standout sides.
