Super Eagles defender Ola Aina marked his return from injury as Nottingham Forest fell 3–1 to Aston Villa, featuring for 69 minutes in the Premier League encounter.
The Forest full-back had been sidelined for several months after suffering a hamstring tear in September 2025 while on international duty with Nigeria. The injury required surgery and ruled him out of action for an extended period, forcing him to miss both club commitments and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
After undergoing a carefully monitored rehabilitation process, Aina recently returned to full training and was deemed fit to resume competitive action. His inclusion in the starting lineup against Aston Villa marked the end of a long injury layoff and his first appearance in over four months.
Despite his return, Nottingham Forest were unable to avoid defeat, conceding three goals as Aston Villa claimed a 3–1 victory. Aina was withdrawn after 69 minutes, with his minutes managed as he continues his gradual reintegration into the squad.
Forest manager Sean Dyche had earlier insisted the club would not rush the Nigerian defender back to action, prioritising a full recovery. Aina’s return, however, provides a significant boost to Forest’s defensive options as the season progresses.
For the Super Eagles, his comeback is also encouraging, as the versatile full-back looks to regain match sharpness ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
After a frustrating spell on the sidelines, Ola Aina will now be aiming to build consistency and rhythm as he resumes his campaign at club level.
