Nigerian youngster Daniel Daga has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court in Norway after being found guilty of committing a sexual act against a person without consent.

The verdict was delivered on Tuesday afternoon following legal proceedings in the Norwegian court. The 19-year-old midfielder was also ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs.

However, the ruling is not yet final, as the player has already notified his lawyer of his intention to appeal the judgment. Because of the appeal, the case will continue through the legal system before a final decision is reached.

In a statement released after the verdict, Molde FK confirmed that the Nigerian midfielder will not be included in the club’s matchday squad until further notice due to the ongoing legal process.

This is a very demanding case for everyone involved,” the club said in its press release.

Daga joined Molde ahead of the 2025 season and made 17 appearances for the Norwegian side last year. The club had already taken him out of training and matches since December while the matter was being handled.

The young midfielder is regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising talents and represented the country with the Nigeria U-20 national football team at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he played a key role as the Flying Eagles reached the quarter-finals.

The case was first reported by Norwegian outlet Romsdals Budstikke, and further legal proceedings are expected as the appeal process continues.
