Nigeria’s wheelchair basketball team has left the country ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games qualifiers, set to take place in Luanda, Angola, from March 22 to 27.
An eight-man squad will represent the nation at the tournament, where they will battle some of the continent’s top sides for a coveted place at the next Commonwealth Games.
President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Seyi Johnson, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and ability to secure qualification.
We are confident in the quality, resilience, and determination of our athletes. They have prepared well, and we believe they can deliver the results needed to qualify for the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
Johnson also highlighted the significance of the qualifiers, describing it as an important opportunity not only to compete at a high level but also to demonstrate the steady growth of wheelchair basketball in Nigeria.
The team’s participation underscores the country’s ongoing commitment to inclusive sports development and its drive to elevate para-sports on the global stage.
