The Nigeria Archery Federation (NAFED) has officially set its 2026 sporting calendar in motion with the announcement of the National Archery Open Championship scheduled to take place in Abuja from April 20 to 26, 2026.

In preparation for what is projected to be a major national event, the federation’s president, Mohammed Abdullahi, has approved the formation of nine strategic committees to oversee the planning and seamless execution of the championship.

The committees will supervise key operational areas including Technical, Finance, Marketing, Transport, Accommodation, Security, Protocol & Ceremonial, Safety & Medical, Secretariat, and Media & Publicity. The Media & Publicity Committee will be led by Patrick Ibeh as Chairman, with Phemmy Adetula serving as Vice Chairman. Other members are Martins Odiete, Amar Ignis, Aisha Oladipo, while Farouk Mohammed will act as Secretary.

Abdullahi emphasized that the early constitution of the committees reflects the federation’s determination to deliver a top-class competition.

The constitution of these committees underscores our commitment to excellence, transparency, and professionalism as we prepare to host a championship that will elevate the standard of archery in Nigeria. We are focused on delivering a seamless event that will strengthen the growth of the sport nationwide,” he stated.

The federation also confirmed that payment of the statutory annual license fee remains compulsory for all participants. Athletes must present proof of payment endorsed by the federation, with licenses valid through 2026. Participation is open to athletes nominated by states, clubs, institutions, academies, as well as individual competitors.

The 2026 National Archery Open Championship is expected to serve as a key platform for talent discovery and further expansion of archery development across the country.
