Eric Chelle at Nigeria vs Morocco press conference

The Nigeria Football Federation has officially denied reports suggesting Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has agreed to join French club Olympique de Marseille. Despite widespread online speculation claiming the Franco-Malian manager had signed a eighteen-month deal with the Ligue 1 outfit, the NFF maintains that no such agreement exists. General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi addressed the rumors directly, clarifying the federation’s position on the coach’s status. “As far as I know, there is nothing like that. We are not aware of any contract between Chelle and Olympique Marseille,” Sanusi told BSN Sports.

This dismissal follows intense scrutiny regarding Chelle’s future and reported interest from several international clubs. NFF President Ibrahim Gusau recently moved to calm these concerns, emphasizing that the tactician is expected to fulfill the remainder of his current deal. “He is still with Nigeria and has one more year on his contract with the Super Eagles,” Gusau stated last week, confirming the coach’s ongoing commitment to the national team. Chelle, who recently led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, remains at the helm as the federation looks toward upcoming competitive fixtures.
