The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is processing the allowances and bonuses of Super Eagles players and officials from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to their individual bank accounts.
The update was revealed by Nigerian journalist Tobi Adepoju, popularly known as Oganla Media, after reports emerged that the Super Eagles had threatened to boycott their AFCON 2025 quarterfinal clash against Algeria due to unpaid entitlements.
“UPDATE FROM MOROCCO: I just spoke with a top NFF official about the potential players’ and officials’ strike,” Adepoju posted on his official X account. He added that the NFF official said: “The monies have been processed from CBN to individual banks. The players and officials will receive all their bonuses when the process is completed.”
Earlier in the day, another respected Nigerian journalist, Oluwashina Okeleji, reported that the squad had warned they would not train or travel to Marrakech if the outstanding payments were not settled. He noted that win bonuses from four games against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique had not yet been received.
Despite the off-field tension, the Super Eagles have enjoyed an impressive tournament so far. They won all three group matches, beating Tanzania 2-1, Tunisia 3-2 and Uganda 3-1, before cruising past Mozambique 4-0 in the round of 16.
The team remains focused on their next challenge, with the Super Eagles of Nigeria scheduled to face Algeria in the AFCON 2025 quarterfinals in Marrakech on Saturday, January 10, 2026, with a place in the semifinals at stake.
