Kun Khalifat have reversed their decision to withdraw from the Nigeria Premier Football League after holding discussions with the League Management Board, with the club confirming an immediate return to league action.

The newly promoted side had earlier announced their withdrawal following sanctions imposed for failing to honour their Matchday 24 fixture against El Kanemi Warriors. As a result of the no show, Kun Khalifat were deducted three points and three goals, while the NPFL also issued a warning of a ₦10 million fine should a similar incident occur in the future.

The club had protested the sanctions, describing them as unfair and excessive, while pointing to logistical and financial difficulties that prevented them from travelling for the fixture. This led to the initial decision to step away from the league, a move that sparked concern over their continued participation in the top flight.

However, the situation changed on Thursday afternoon when Kun Khalifat released an official statement confirming that they would continue in the NPFL following what they described as productive talks with the league authorities.

”Kun Khalifat FC is pleased to announce its return to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) following positive discussions with the League Management Board. The club had earlier withdrawn from the league citing unfair treatment and disproportionate sanctions,” the statement read.

”Michael Amaefula, CEO of Kun Khalifat FC, expresses the club’s delight at the constructive dialogue with the NPFL Board as we are happy to put our differences behind us and focus on the beautiful game. We appreciate the League Management Board’s willingness to listen and address our concerns. We look forward to a more collaborative and productive relationship moving forward,” the statement continued.

With the matter resolved, Kun Khalifat are set to resume competitive action immediately. The club will host Shooting Stars in their next NPFL fixture on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

The club also appealed to supporters to turn out in large numbers, describing the fixture as an important moment in their campaign. Kun Khalifat thanked fans for their patience and loyalty during what they termed a difficult period and promised an exciting matchday experience as they look to push forward in the league.

“The management of KKFC is optimistic about a successful return to action and is counting on the energy and passion of our supporters to drive the team forward. Ticket information and other match details will be announced soon. The club looks forward to welcoming fans to the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri on Sunday,” the statement concluded.

The development brings a quick resolution to a situation that had cast doubt over Kun Khalifat’s future in the NPFL, although the league management is yet to release a separate statement on the club’s reinstatement.
