Abdul Karim Zito has resigned from his position as head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect, bringing an end to days of speculation surrounding his future at the club Trybal News reports.

The decision was confirmed in an official statement released via the club’s social media platforms, which read: “Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his role as the head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect.

“Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services and wished him the best for the future. The new technical direction of the club will be communicated in due course.”

Zito’s resignation follows Kotoko’s exit from the MTN FA Cup last weekend, a result that intensified scrutiny over his position. Earlier on Monday, the club’s management had indicated that no final decision had been taken regarding his future, while also admitting they were not fully satisfied with the team’s performances this season.

By stepping down, Karim Zito effectively avoided a potential dismissal. Under the terms of his contract, the club would have been required to provide a one month notice or pay a compensation fee of GHS 120,000 had he been relieved of his duties.

His departure comes during a difficult campaign for the Porcupine Warriors, who have struggled for consistency despite high expectations. Asante Kotoko have now moved quickly to appoint a temporary technical leader in Coach Prince Yaw Owusu and will be assisted by assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng for the foreseeable future.
