Nigeria international forward Joy Omewa has completed a permanent move to Nottingham Forest Women, signing a contract that will keep her at the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.
The 23-year-old arrives from Danish giants Fortuna Hjørring, where she enjoyed a prolific five-year spell, scoring over 50 goals and helping the club win the Danish Women’s Cup twice as well as the Kvindeligaen league title in the 2024/25 season. Her outstanding form earned her the Danish Women’s League Player of the Season award for 2024/25 after she finished as the league’s top scorer with 22 goals and four assists in just 23 matches.
Joy Omewa has continued her fine form this season, netting three goals in four UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers and contributing in Europa Cup matches for Fortuna Hjørring. In domestic action, she featured in 14 league matches, started 11 games, scored 12 goals and logged a total of 1,020 minutes. Fortuna Hjørring finished second in the main round of the league, securing a place in the spring championship play-offs, which begin in March.
The Nigerian forward began her career at Osun Babes at youth level before moving to Confluence Queens. She later joined Danish side Boldklubben af 1893 in 2021, where she scored three goals in nine appearances. A subsequent move to Fortuna Hjørring saw her develop into one of the league’s most lethal attackers, playing a key role in the club’s league and cup double.
Nottingham Forest Women head coach Carly Davies welcomed the signing, saying, “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Joy Omewa to Nottingham Forest. She is a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal, and her ability to score consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad. Joy is exactly the type of player who can help us push forward and achieve our ambitions.”
Joy Omewa also expressed her excitement after completing the move, adding, “I am delighted to join Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club, and I’m excited to be part of the team. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to an already talented squad.”
Her arrival is expected to strengthen Forest’s attacking options as the club looks to build momentum and challenge strongly in the coming seasons.
