Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has completed a loan switch to Leicester City from Southampton, with the deal expected to run until the end of the 2025/26 season pending league approval.
The 29-year-old Nigerian arrives at the King Power Stadium after making 111 appearances for Southampton across the Premier League and Championship. With over 400 matches under his belt and 34 international caps, Aribo adds experience and depth to Leicester’s midfield options.
Leicester City are currently experiencing a challenging Championship campaign, sitting 16th in the table and nine points above the relegation zone after a run of inconsistent results. Defensive struggles and a recent winless streak have contributed to their position in the lower half of the standings.
Speaking after sealing the move, Aribo shared his excitement about the new challenge:
For me, it’s amazing to have got it done and I just can’t wait to get going. I’ve always known the squad is good. I’m so certain about where we can get to and what we can do together. It’s just good to be a part of it.”
Aribo began his career at Staines Town before progressing to Charlton Athletic, where his performances paved the way for a move to Rangers. He enjoyed a successful spell in Scotland, making 149 appearances, scoring 26 goals, and winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup. He also scored in the UEFA Europa League final during his time with the club.
Since making his Nigeria debut in 2019, Aribo has earned 34 caps and was included in the Super Eagles squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. His move to Leicester City provides a fresh opportunity for more playing time as he continues his career.
