The President of the West Africa Football Union Zone B (WAFU B), Ibrahim Gusau, has confirmed that the regional body will soon unveil its football events calendar for 2026.
Gusau, who also serves as President of the Nigeria Football Federation, revealed that work is ongoing to finalise the schedule for all age grade competitions across the WAFU B zone. The calendar will cover tournaments for both boys and girls at various youth levels.
“We are working on the calendar of events for the various age-grade competitions in 2026. Once we conclude the process, it will be released to the public,” Gusau said in an interview with BSN Sports.
The announcement comes as preparations intensify for major youth tournaments on the African continent. The 2026 edition of the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations will be staged in Morocco from April 25 to May 15, 2026. The competition will serve as Africa’s qualification pathway for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
In recent months, qualifying tournaments for the U-17 continental championship have been organised across the Confederation of African Football’s zonal unions, including WAFU B, with teams battling for places at the finals.
At the U-20 level, there will be no regional competition in 2026. The next edition of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations is scheduled for 2027 in line with its biennial format. The most recent tournament took place in Egypt from April 27 to May 18, 2025, and acted as the qualifying route for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Nigeria will not participate in the 2026 U-17 AFCON in Morocco after failing to secure qualification through the regional qualifying series.
